CHRISTINE MARIE BLATCHFORD
May 20, 1951 – February 12, 2020

The staff and Board of Directors of the Justice Centre are saddened to learn that renowned Canadian journalist Christie Blatchford has passed away.

Ms. Blatchford’s candid and uncompromising writing earned her a well-deserved reputation as a courageous, fair and objective reporter, always speaking truth to power, and sensitive to the core Canadian principles of individual liberty and the rule of law.

Risking injury to career and reputation, and refusing to be intimidated, she has faced cultural forces and bureaucratic tendencies with steadfast conviction that the light of truth must always prevail.

The Justice Centre was pleased to award Ms. Blatchford the 2019 George Jonas Freedom Award, given each year to a Canadian individual or organization in recognition of significant contributions to defending Canada as a free society.

A video of Ms. Blatchford’s riveting speech, given to an audience of 300 Canadians in Toronto on Friday June 14, 2019, can be found here, starting at 45:46. Ms. Blatchford’s captivating remarks were preceded by an introduction by lawyer Marie Henein, commencing at 34:00. The fireside chat with Ms. Blatchford begins at 120:27.

Our sincere condolences go out to the friends, co-workers, and loved ones of Christie Blatchford.
